Minakami Onsen is a hot spring town on the Tone River, which runs down from the Tanigawa mountain range. Its hotels and ryokan inns are a great base for exploring the surrounding nature through activities like hiking, rafting, and skiing. Walk on a promenade through the nearby Suwakyo Gorge for a dose of greenery or multicolored foliage, depending on the season. For a thrill, try bungee jumping from the 42-meter-high bridge over the valley.
