Paddle through Shima’s famously blue waters
There are guided canoeing opportunities on Lake Shima and Lake Okushima.
The calm waters and stunning scenery in Shima make this remote part of Gunma a great location for novice canoers. Canoeing is the best way to experience "Shima Blue," the river and lakes' intense cobalt color. The blue is at its most intense in spring, when the river and lakes are fed by snowmelt from the surrounding mountains.
The activity is accessible for most people, and guides will offer support and advice where necessary.
