How to Get to Myogi

Myogi is a popular area for hiking and climbing particularly in autumn when Mt. Myogi is covered in vibrant fall foliage. It is one of Gunma's "three famous mountains," considered exceptional for their majesty. Myogi is accessible by train and taxi from Tokyo.

Mt. Myogi is accessible by train and taxi in less than 2 hours from Tokyo, via Takasaki Station. From Takasaki, take a local train to Isobe Station, in the charming onsen town of Isobe Onsen. Taxis are available at the station for a swift transfer to Mt. Myogi.

Tokyo Station

Shinkansen trains from Tokyo Station reach Takasaki Station in under 1 hour.

Shinkansen trains from Tokyo Station to Takasaki Station are covered by the JR TOKYO Wide Pass and JR EAST Pass, and others.

Takasaki Station

Takasaki is a stop on the Joetsu and Hokuriku Shinkansen Lines, and the gateway to Gunma: express trains and local trains from Tokyo stop at Takasaki Station. From this station you can transfer to local trains for destinations around Gunma Prefecture.

Train to Isobe Station

At Takasaki Station, transfer to a Shin-etsu Line train to Isobe Station. The journey takes around 20 minutes.

Taxi to Roadside Station Myogi

A taxi is the easiest way to reach Roadside Station Myogi. There are taxis in front of Isobe Station, and the journey takes around 15 minutes. As there are no taxi stands at Roadside Station Myogi or Mt. Myogi, be sure to request a return trip when you board a taxi at Isobe Onsen.

This is a convenient starting point for exploring Mt. Myogi, with scenic mountain views, tourist information, and local produce to buy. Myogi Onsen Momiji no Yu is located nearby, an uphill hike or a few more minutes by car. Myogi-jinja Shrine near the roadside station has a long history and impressive architecture.
