Hike an extraordinary ice age landscape
Oze National Park is a beautiful hiking destination in the mountains of Northern Gunma.
Its elevated boardwalks plot the trail around its main highlights: Ozegahara Plateau and Ozenuma Pond. Ozegahara's marshland blooms with skunk cabbages in spring and daylilies in summer. In autumn, the grass turns golden.
The area’s two most popular trailheads start at Hatomachitoge (near Ozegahara) and Oshimizu (near Ozenuma Pond). From these trailheads, it takes around one hour to walk to Ozegahara.
The marshland dates back to the ice age around 10,000 years ago. Many of the plants that bloom across the marsh have evolved from that time.
