Yakushi Onsen Hatago

薬師温泉旅籠

Last updated: February 19, 2021

A nostalgic onsen experience hidden in Gunma's mountains

This small onsen inn along the Nuru River works to preserve Japan’s culture and heritage. Yakushi Onsen Hatago is made up of traditional, thatched-roof buildings from across Japan. Inside, nostalgic ornaments and furniture have been carefully curated, making it a treasure trove of historical memorabilia. This rustic retreat serves fresh, local meals. Visitors can relax in the soothing baths amid an idyllic, mountainside setting.

The Yakushi Onsen spring that feeds the baths is similarly historic. It was purportedly discovered in the 18th century by a monk who was traveling across the country.
