Admire the work of some of Japan's best modern artists
The Museum of Modern Art in Gunma displays international artists like Munch, Monet, and Renoir alongside Japanese artists. These include artists from Gunma, such as Fukuzawa Ichiro, Yamaguchi Kaoru, and Tsuruoka Masao.
The minimal, cube-shaped building opened in 1974 and was designed by renowned Japanese architect Isozaki Arata. Many consider it one of his greatest works.
The gallery is dedicated to spreading understanding of modern art. It features temporary and permanent exhibitions and regular gallery talks, lectures, and other educational programs. The museum's main focus is on contemporary art, but ancient Japanese and Chinese art is included in the Koho-an Inoue collection.
