Experience Japanese hospitality at this riverside inn
Tatsumikan is a welcoming traditional inn in the Kamimoku area of Minakami. This chic retreat is on the banks of the Tone River, with views of Mt. Tanigawa in the distance. The local hot spring is fed by snowmelt from the mountain, which then filters through the rock and warms up for around 17 years before it emerges at the source.
This magical spot served as inspiration for Japanese artist Kiyoshi Yamashita (1922–1971), who painted a mural next to one of the ryokan's public baths. On a cold day, warm up with skewered local fish grilled on an open fire.
