Privacy and luxury in Isobe Onsen
This historic ryokan has been an inn since the Edo period (1603–1868). Isobe Onsen is the setting of the Japanese fable, ""Shita-kiri Suzume,"" which translates as ""The Sparrow with the Slit Tongue."" The theme runs throughout the hotel, with sparrow motifs throughout the property.
The ryokan's comfortable Japanese-style tatami rooms overlook the property's tranquil garden, where you can appreciate the seasonal changes and spot real life sparrows flitting among the branches. Opt for a room with a private, open-air bath or slip into one of the ryokan's two mineral-rich garden onsen. Book in advance to enjoy the exclusivity of eating in a private dining room, sampling hearty Japanese cuisine, including the local specialty, ""mineral spring tofu.""
