Hike a sacred mountain with 360-degree views
The 2,158-meter peak of Mt. Hotaka provides incredible views over Gunma, and on a clear day, hikers can see Mt. Fuji in the distance. This challenging hike is best suited to seasoned climbers as there are some ladders and chains along the way.
In July, visitors can see blooms of iwakagami, a pink flower endemic to Japan.
Followers of the ancient ascetic religion Shugendo have worshipped the mountain and trained on its slopes for centuries.
