Procession celebrating local folklore

Certain natural phenomena, such as unexplained lights and sunshowers, are called "fox weddings" in the folklore of some parts of Japan. This festival commemorates that legend while furthering the local marriage customs of past generations.

Participants dress up in fox makeup and masks, adorn themselves in traditional formalwear, and perform a mock wedding procession and ceremony. The parade is the highlight of the event, which provides a glimpse into local customs and folklore.
