Onsen hopping in a town rich in tradition
This picturesque town is one of Japan’s best known onsen resorts. The town centers around Yubatake, a hot water field that emits large quantities of mineral-rich water from Kusatsu’s main spring.
Kusatsu Onsen is rich in tradition. You can watch yumomi, a ceremonial water-stirring performance, wander around the town in a yukata robe, and stay in one of the many ryokan inns around Yubatake.
There are several public onsen, including traditional baths Gozanoyu and Otakinoyu, and the outdoor bath of Sainokawara Open-Air bath.
