Paint your own unique Daruma to achieve your goals
Hand-painted Daruma are an icon of Gunma, and the majority of Daruma are made in Takasaki. Imai Daruma NAYA has been in the business of crafting these lucky symbols for over 90 years, and the store and workshop in Takasaki is even painted a distinctive “Daruma red”.
Visitors can buy a wide range of Daruma in different sizes and colors, order customized Daruma, or paint their own. In addition to classic designs, the craftspeople at Imai Daruma NAYA make a range of designer Daruma to decorate stylish interiors.
A painting experience takes around one hour and you can learn to paint the distinctive face details, which symbolize long life and good luck. Children under 8 years of age can enjoy a free-painting experience, starting with a pure white Daruma to decorate as they wish.
