A storied, historical inn with secluded hot spring baths
This beautiful inn in Joshin'etsukogen National Park is surrounded by nature. The inn is over 140 years old and registered as a National Tangible Cultural Property. The elegant, spacious guestrooms overlook the property's garden or the Hoshi River. Many renowned artists and writers stayed at Chojukan and were inspired by the peaceful atmosphere. Near the entrance of the inn, guests gather around the traditional sunken hearth (irori), to drink tea and exchange stories.
Meals feature local specialties and rare sakes from Gunma and Niigata. Relax in the historical public baths, with mineral-rich waters known for their high calcium and sodium sulfate content. Both gender-segregated and mixed bathing is available.
