How to Get to Tsutsujigaoka Park

This popular park in Tatebayashi is dedicated to azaleas. The park has over 10,000 azaleas of over 50 varieties spread over 110,000 square meters. Some of the plants are very old, with one estimated to be over 800 years old. During the peak bloom from mid-April to early May there is an azalea festival in the park with special events.

Tsutsujigaoka Park is easily accessible from Tokyo by Limited Express train and bus in around 1 hour and 25 minutes. The Tobu Railway Limited Express RYOMO service from Asakusa Station reaches Tatebayashi Station in around an hour. From there, you can take a bus to the park. Alternatively, you can take the Ueno Tokyo Line from Tokyo Station to Kuki Station, then transfer to the Limited Express RYOMO. This route takes around 10 minutes longer.

Asakusa Station

Asakusa Station is on the Ginza Line (Tokyo Metro) and the Tobu Line. Trains for Gunma and Tochigi depart from the Tobu Line Limited Express Train Platform on 2F.

The Limited Express RYOMO (Tobu Railway) from Asakusa Station bound for Akagi reaches Tatebayashi in around 65 minutes. Note that all seats are reserved. You can buy tickets at the station or online.

Tatebayashi Station

There is a tourist information center at the station, outside the ticket gate. Take the east exit for buses to Tsutsujigaoka Park. There is also a taxi stand at the east exit.

Bus to Tsutsujigaoka Park Bus Stop

Take a Tatebayashi / Itakura Line bus from the east exit of the station. You can pay the fare in cash or with a transportation IC card as you exit the bus. The bus takes around 10 minutes to reach the Tsutsujigaoka Park Bus Stop.

The bus stop is near the parking area for Tsutsujigaoka Park. From the stop, you can walk to the park entrance.

Goal: Tsutsujigaoka Park

The main entrance to the park is about 10 minutes on foot from the bus stop. During the azalea festival, stores selling snacks and souvenirs are open along the approach to the park entrance. During the festival, hundreds of colorful carp streamers are strung across the Tsuruuda River near Fureai Bridge, appearing to swim on the breeze.
