This popular park in Tatebayashi is dedicated to azaleas. The park has over 10,000 azaleas of over 50 varieties spread over 110,000 square meters. Some of the plants are very old, with one estimated to be over 800 years old. During the peak bloom from mid-April to early May there is an azalea festival in the park with special events.
Tsutsujigaoka Park is easily accessible from Tokyo by Limited Express train and bus in around 1 hour and 25 minutes. The Tobu Railway Limited Express RYOMO service from Asakusa Station reaches Tatebayashi Station in around an hour. From there, you can take a bus to the park. Alternatively, you can take the Ueno Tokyo Line from Tokyo Station to Kuki Station, then transfer to the Limited Express RYOMO. This route takes around 10 minutes longer.
